Rylee’s Natural Birth Story

Mom and dad were so excited for the arrival of their little girl!  But, she made them wait for it!  She didn’t come until 41 weeks and 3 days…yes, that’s 10 days after her “expected” date.  Mom wanted to have a natural birth, and she accomplished her goal!  She was ah-mazing.  Seriously.  She worked through each contraction and brought her baby into the world so beautifully.  I feel so honored to have been there!  Her total labor was about 8 hours.  Pretty fast for a first baby!

I was actually backing up for another photographer who had a family emergency, so the first time I met them was when I walked in the doors to their room!  They were so awesome, and I’m so glad I was able to photograph this special day for them!!

So, here’s the story.  Mom woke up about 3:30 in the morning, thinking maybe this was labor!  They labored a few hours at home, and then headed to IMC – the hospital in Murray.  They had a great midwife that helped by giving counter pressure, positive affirmations, and being supportive.  Mom labored for a bit in the tub, and I got there just as she was getting out and heading back to the bed.

Colton helped her through each contraction, and was so supportive for her!  He held her hand, rubbed her back, offered her supportive words of encouragement.  He was such a great help and so supportive for his sweet wife!

As she got closer to pushing, and during pushing, the baby’s heart rate slowed with contractions.  It got to the point that they were concerned, so they called some extra doctors and nurses into the room to help.  They talked to mom about the possibilities of using a vacuum or a c-section if baby’s heart rate slowed too much.  Luckily, the baby’s heart rate picked back and things went ok.  They told mom she had one more push to get the baby out or they would need to help her.  She tried so hard, and did it!  It was such a beautiful moment!

They quickly cut the cord and took baby to the warmer to help her clear her lungs and make sure she was ok.  All the staff was great, and supportive of mom while making sure everyone was safe.

They weighed her and measured her as part of the newborn exam.  She was born Saturday, March 11th at 11:38am, and was 7 pounds 4 ounces, and 22 inches long. Her parents love her so much!  I love that special bond that forms immediately after a baby is born!

After about 20 minutes, baby was doing much better, and got to go see mom for the first time.  Mom and dad both shed a few tears which I think is so sweet!

I asked Colton if he felt like a dad, and he said “not really!”  I’m sure that’s already changed!  It is so crazy the moment they are born and everything changes!
